The Lord commands Noah to enter the ark with his household and the animals. Noah obeys. Then the fountains of the great deep burst forth and the windows of the heavens were opened. Rain falls upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. The waters increase and prevail mightily, covering all the high mountains under the whole heaven. Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life dies. Only Noah and those with him in the ark are left.
